Nandi: Form One Student Dies after Alleged Beating by Teachers over Cheating in physics Exam

Police in Nandi County are probing the death of a Form One student at Chemase Secondary School in Tinderet who was allegedly beaten by two teachers over claims of exam cheating.

The 16-year-old Kelvin Kiptanui died on Friday evening while being treated at Nandi Hills Level 4 Hospital where he was rushed after complaining of severe pains in his chest.

The principal says two teachers at the school allegedly beat Kiptanui in turns while accusing him of engaging in cheating during the mid-term Physics exam alongside another student.

Tinderet OCPD, Mohammed Jire said police are investigating what caused the teenage student’s death after he reported to Chemase Secondary School only a few weeks earlier.

Jire revealed that an autopsy will be conducted on the boy’s body as soon as possible.

“If the postmortem reveals the cause of death to be the beating from the said teachers then we shall prosecute them for murder,” Jire stated.

The police boss assured the parents and members of the public that justice will be served over the boy’s sudden death.

On Sunday evening, students at the school were agitated, demanding more information from the administration about their colleague’s death. Since then, the school has been closed indefinitely.
