Fresh Protests Rock Paris After Police Shooting Of A Teenager

Clashes have erupted between protestors and police over the shooting death of a 17-year-old in the Paris neighbourhood of Nanterre.

Prosecutors claimed the boy was driving a rented car in a western Paris neighbourhood early Tuesday when police pulled him up for violating various traffic laws.

A video circulating on social media and confirmed by the French news agency AFP shows two police officers attempting to halt the car, with one putting his firearm through the window and firing at close range as the teenager seems to continue driving, before crashing a few dozen meters ahead.

The teenager died shortly after emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate him at the scene.

A protest was held outside the police station by local residents.

Tensions rose later Tuesday between police and demonstrators who set fire to a car, destroyed bus stops, and threw firecrackers at police, who retaliated with tear gas and dispersal grenades, according to videos broadcast on local media.
