The Governor of Narok Samuel Ole Tunai has left the ruling Jubilee Party which is under the Azimio la Umoja Movement to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), led by Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the August general elections.
Deputy President William Ruto on Friday also welcomed other leaders from Narok county who have decamped to UDA under the Kenya Kwanza outfit.
The Governor explained that his decision was based on his conviction in DP Ruto’s presidential ambition and long-term plans for Kenya.
“We firmly believe that you are the right person to take this country to the next level. I totally believe in your agenda for this country and the people of Kenya,” Tunai said.
Tunai has been the governor of Narok for two consecutive terms thus he is no longer eligible to defend the gubernatorial seat.
While welcoming Governor Tunai to his party, the Deputy President applauded him for his effort to unite various communities in the multi-ethnic county, during his two terms as the county boss.
Ruto also noted that Tunai has worked closely with the national government in a bid to bring development to the county.
“The national government has worked seamlessly with the county government under the leadership of Tunai on matters development from water to electricity to roads among others,” the DP said.
Tunai who is eying the Narok Senate seat after serving two terms as Governor declared his support for former Interior Chief Administrative Secretary Patrick Ole Ntutu’s gubernatorial bid.
“Because we believe in continuity, we decided that I go for the Senate seat and I’m requesting the people of Narok to elect me as their Senator and Patrick Ntutu as the governor,” he added.
