The entry of Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has caused a dynamic shift in the contest to succeed Trans-Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba.
Natembeya will be squaring out with key figures such as Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa, who had been viewed as a front-runner for the seat.
Political tensions are high as Wamalwa and Natembeya ramp up their campaigns and have clashed twice in public.
Dr Wamalwa had already dismissed several contenders to the position due to a lack of credible rivals.
Dr. Abraham Singoei and Maurice Bissau, Khaemba’s major adversary in the 2013 and 2017 elections, have also been promoting their candidacies for the seat.

Wamalwa slammed Natembeya for reportedly being “used by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa” to prevent him from succeeding Khaemba.
The claims, according to Natembeya, are “baseless and without merit.”
“I know Eugene Wamalwa is in front of you, but he isn’t brave enough to face me. On October 9, 2021, during the burial of former ambassador Orie Rogo Manduli in Saboti, Wamalwa said Natembeya, “I am ready to square it with anybody.”
However, Natembeya claims that no one is pressuring him to run, and that he is motivated by a personal desire to make a difference in the county.
“I’m my own guy,” he says. Nobody is pressuring me to run, as Wamalwa claims. “I want to change the county for the betterment of the people,” he says.
