Natembeya Raid: DCI Launches Thorough Investigations Into Attack on EACC Officers

A high-stakes anti-corruption raid at the home of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya turned violent on Monday, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a probe into what officials are calling a deliberate attack on justice.

According to the DCI, EACC officers were executing a legally sanctioned search warrant over alleged irregular procurement and fictitious payments amounting to KSh1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government between 2022 and 2025.

The search targeted the governor’s Milimani residence in Kitale, as well as offices and homes of four other individuals.

Drama unfolded when a group of unidentified individuals stormed the premises, overpowering security officers and causing mayhem.

Police say five EACC vehicles were vandalized, and several seized items were stolen from the scene.

“The attack is a blatant attempt to obstruct justice,” read a DCI statement, confirming ongoing investigations to apprehend the perpetrators.

The operation, conducted in the presence of Natembeya’s legal team and family members, has sparked political backlash.

Natembeya’s DAP-K party termed the raid “a return to Moi-era tactics,” accusing the state of weaponising independent institutions to silence dissenting voices.

“This is about the TAWE movement and Natembeya’s growing popularity,” said a DAP-K post. “We won’t allow political persecution disguised as anti-corruption.”
