Members of Parliament complained on Friday, April 14, that media outlets are biased and that they selectively choose what to broadcast, resulting in poor coverage.
According to the MPs, selective coverage gives the impression that MPs do not contribute to debates in the House.
They claimed that outside of Parliament, much of their work in the constituencies receives insufficient media attention.
Daniel Nanok, chair of the Broadcasting and Library Committee, questioned why most parliamentary activities ‘die on arrival’ in newsrooms.
“Make us understand the operations and needs of the media in disseminating information to the general public,” Nanok posed.
Nanok emphasized the importance of journalists remaining professional and factual during Parliament’s legislative work.
He urged journalists to dispel Kenyans’ misconception that MPs can only speak during House sessions.
