National Assembly Leadership Heads to Naivasha for Strategic Retreat

The top leadership of the National Assembly has gathered in Naivasha, Nakuru County, for a crucial leadership retreat scheduled from Monday through Wednesday.

Themed “Re-invigorating Synergy in Leadership for Accelerated Discharge of the Mandate of the National Assembly,” the retreat aims to address key legislative priorities and enhance collaboration among the Assembly’s leaders.

According to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, this year’s retreat builds upon the previous theme of “Building Synergy in Leadership: Enhancing the Legislative Agenda.” It provides a platform for House leadership to strategize on legislative matters as they prepare for the Fourth Session, which is set to run from November 5 to December 12, 2024.

Welcoming participants, Wetang’ula highlighted that the retreat would yield actionable strategies to tackle challenges faced during the Third Session and advance plans for effective bill processing. “It will enable leadership to formulate approaches for timely oversight by the National Assembly and address procedural issues affecting our mandate,” he stated.

In light of public concerns regarding energy costs and reliability, the Speaker has included sessions with key officials, including the Energy Cabinet Secretary and Kenya Power CEO, to discuss potential improvements in the sector.

Wetang’ula emphasized the importance of bipartisan cooperation to prioritize essential legislation addressing unemployment and the impacts of the current tax regime. The retreat also features a roundtable discussion with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) on enhancing competitiveness, marking a significant step towards fostering partnerships that benefit the public.
