Nationwide Blackout Leaves Kenyans in Darkness

Kenya Power on Friday morning announced a nationwide power outage that plunged most counties across the country into darkness.

The blackout, which started at around 9 am, affected all regions except the Rift Valley.

In a statement, Kenya Power expressed remorse for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that they were working tirelessly to restore electricity.

“We are experiencing an outage affecting several parts of the country. Our engineers are on the ground resolving the issue, and we will keep the public updated on the progress,” the utility company stated.

The power outage comes just hours after Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, James Wandayi, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to reducing frequent blackouts.

Wandayi noted that new measures had been put in place to mitigate such occurrences and promised quick responses in case of future outages.

Despite these assurances, Friday’s blackout marks the second major outage within a week, sparking frustration among Kenyans.

Areas such as Nairobi, Murang’a, Embu, Kitale, and Malindi were severely affected.

As the country waits for power to be restored, public confidence in the energy sector is waning, with many faulting the ministry’s unfulfilled promises.
