The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has condemned the ongoing ethnic clashes in Sondu on the Kericho-Kisumu border.
According to the commission, a total of eight people have died and 18 others have been seriously injured since the beginning of the clashes at the border.
In a statement on Thursday, the commission called on the political leadership of both Kisumu and Kericho counties to appeal to their followers to cease hostilities.
“We are calling upon political leadership of both Kisumu and Kericho counties to appeal to their followers and cease hostilities. We also request the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, to enhance security to avert loss of more lives and destruction of property and return of calm,” said NCIC.
As a commission, we have put together an elaborate program to address the emerging issues bordering on resource sharing, ethnic animosity, and political alignment.”

On Wednesday, three people were confirmed dead while scores are nursing machete and arrow wounds following fresh clashes between the two communities.
