The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has dismissed its Vice Chairperson, Wambui Nyutu, citing continued engagement in partisan political activities that the Commission says violate her oath of office and statutory obligations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, NCIC Chairperson Rev Dr Samuel Kobia said the Commission had reached the decision during a Special Meeting held on 22 July 2025. The statement noted that Nyutu’s actions had become “untenable” and incompatible with the impartiality required of a Commissioner.

“The Commission unanimously resolved to relieve Ms Nyutu of her role as Vice Chairperson of the Commission with immediate effect,” Dr Kobia said.

Nyutu has faced scrutiny since early 2025, with the Commission convening three earlier meetings to address what it described as a pattern of political engagement. While she initially denied the claims and issued a formal apology, the Commission said she had resumed partisan activities.

“At its meeting on 22nd July, the Commission noted with deep concern that Ms Nyutu has since been involved in partisan political activities, including participation in meetings affiliated with a particular political party,” the statement added.

Her removal as Vice Chair is the first step in a broader process that could see her ousted entirely from the Commission. The NCIC said it will notify the relevant appointing authorities under Section 23 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

Dr Dorcas Kedogo has been appointed as the new Vice Chairperson with immediate effect.

The Commission emphasised that any political statements made by Nyutu were in her personal capacity and did not reflect NCIC’s official position.

The NCIC reaffirmed its commitment to impartiality, integrity, and professionalism, reminding all Commissioners of their obligation to remain apolitical in executing their mandate.
