The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has launched investigations into the ongoing inter-communal clashes in Samburu County that have left five people dead and approximately 800 livestock stolen.
The commission, alongside law enforcement agencies, is working to determine the cause of the conflict and restore peace to the affected areas.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NCIC Chairperson Samuel Kobia condemned the violence, urging the warring groups to cease hostilities immediately.
“Violence and conflict have no place in our communities,” Kobia said, highlighting the detrimental effects of the continued strife.
The clashes, which occurred in Kilepoi Kawap Location, Baragoi, Samburu North, have raised serious security concerns.
NCIC is collaborating with local leaders, security agencies, and community elders to de-escalate the situation and promote peaceful dialogue.
Kobia further emphasized the need to abandon harmful practices like cattle rustling and theft, advocating for alternative livelihoods.
He also called on political and community leaders to actively support peace initiatives and for security forces to take swift action against the perpetrators.
While multi-agency teams recovered 150 animals, protests erupted locally, demanding urgent government intervention to curb the escalating insecurity. Authorities are working to bring justice and restore stability to the region.
