Ndindi Nyoro has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to follow the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act and retire from party politics.
During a church service in Isiolo on Sunday, the Kiharu MP said Kenyatta should learn from his predecessors, late Presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki, and support his successor by staying out of politics.
“Our Presidential Retirement Benefits Act is very clear on Section 6 that when a President retires, that you should cease as a former President to hold any position in a political party”.
“We are now eight months since elections, we are respectfully requesting you as the people of Kenya to please respect Presidential Retirement Benefits Act so that you can lead by example.”
Instead of getting involved in politics, the Kiharu member recommended the ex-president to contact the current President, William Ruto, and seek a truce.
Nyoro reminded Kenyatta that the Retirement Benefits Act is unambiguous about the procedures that need be performed in such instances, emphasizing the penalties of violating it.
Uhuru Kenyatta is locked in a leadership battle inside his Jubilee Party.
Kenyatta has planned a contested Jubilee Party National Delegate Conference (NDC) bringing together ousted leaders, despite the legal necessity to leave politics.
Kenyatta, who is legally required to have retired as a political party leader, will host a struggling axis of the erstwhile ruling party on Monday at Nairobi’s Ngong racecourse.
