Chairman of the Parliamentary Budget Committee Ndindi Nyoro has moved to assure Kenyans that the controversial Finance Bill 2023-24 is still open for amendments to accommodate their input.
Nyoro said the finance committee has been going around the country to get views and they will be incorporated in the Bill.
Speaking at Mumbi grounds while issuing bursary cheques to the residents, he said there will be more negotiations before the Bill is passed.
He said the president is also consulting widely with the leaders about the Bill.
Nyoro who is also the Mp for Kiharu said the government has no intention of imposing the Bill on the people as it is being purported.
He also said the government should be given time to explain how the money obtained from the proposed additional taxes will be spent.
The MP said is striving to cut down on borrowing and generate revenue domestically. He added that with the proposed taxes, the government shall collect Sh 2.7 trillion which will go a long way in running the government.
He said the Finance Bill will also help reduce the fiscal deficit to around 4.4 percent from 8.2 percent in the last financial year.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga has threatened the return of weekly mass action against President William Ruto if the controversial Finance Bill 2023-24 is passed.
“We are putting the government on notice that we shall resume mass protests if our demands are not met,” he said.
Raila urged Azimio MPs to reject the Bill as he called on supporters to “deal” with MPs who will vote for its implementation.
