Matic Set For Roma On Free Transfer

Nemanja Matic is set to join Roma on a free transfer, where he will reconnect with Jose Mourinho, the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss.

The contract is almost done, according to Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, with only the final details to be worked out.

After announcing his departure from Old Trafford this summer, it was always likely to be his next destination.

Mourinho has already worked with and desired Matic at Chelsea and then Manchester United, while Matic’s agent Vlado Lemic has a close relationship with Roma director of sport Tiago Pinto.

It’s thought to be a one-year deal with the option to extend for the 2023-24 season.

In August, the Serbian international will turn 34, and he has appeared in 32 competitive matches for Manchester United this season, assisting four times.

The hunt for the 33-year-old midfielder intensified after it was revealed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan had turned down a contract extension and will join Serie A rivals Inter on a free transfer.
