Netherlands Cruise Past Finland 4-0 to Edge Closer to World Cup Qualification

The Netherlands continued their ruthless form in World Cup qualifying, thumping Finland 4-0 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday, their second identical win in just three days.

Memphis Depay starred once again, scoring one and assisting two, as Ronald Koeman’s side tightened their grip on top spot in Group G, moving six points clear.

Donyell Malen, Virgil van Dijk, and Cody Gakpo were also on target in a dominant display.

The hosts wasted no time asserting control, with Malen opening the scoring in the eighth minute after a slick one-two with Depay before blasting into the top-right corner.

Nine minutes later, Van Dijk made it 2-0, rising to meet Depay’s pinpoint free-kick with a powerful header past Finnish goalkeeper Jesse Joronen.

The Oranje continued to press, and after Jurrien Timber’s header crashed against the bar, they added a third before halftime.

Miro Tenho was penalized for handball, and Depay calmly slotted home from the penalty spot, sending Joronen the wrong way.

Finland offered little in attack, and while the Netherlands initially struggled to add a fourth after the break, even having a Wout Weghorst goal ruled out for offside, Gakpo eventually sealed the win in the 84th minute.

The Liverpool winger fired in from the edge of the box after a clever pass from Xavi Simons.
