Man Shoots Up A Post Post Office

Emergency personnel flocked to a Netherton Post Office after reports of a gun being fired in an attempted robbery.

Merseyside Police said that officers got a report about 3.15pm that a man entered Park Lane Post Office and demanded money from the till. When the staff refused to give him money, he allegedly shot a gun into the air, which witnesses described as looking like a starter pistol.

The man then allegedly fled on a pedal cycle, according to police. As the location remains blocked off, an information request has been issued.

There have been no injuries recorded, and no money has been seized as a result of the investigation.

On Wednesday afternoon, the ECHO photographed a police cordon in place as officers entered and exited the Post Office building. Park Lane is temporarily closed around the intersection with Hereford Drive, and vehicles are advised to seek alternate routes.

The suspect is characterized as a Caucasian male with long blond hair and a thin physique. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, black Berghaus trousers, and a black backpack at the time of the event.

“This is the second attempted robbery of a local company in the Bootle area this week, and we understand how distressing this will be for everyone,” Detective Superintendent Matt Smith said.
