New Program To Boost Tourism In Coast

The government plans to announce a new tourist recovery strategy next month in an effort to address the struggling sector.

According to Tourism PS Zainab Hussein, the strategy targets to expand the tourism sector in places that attract tourists like sporting tourism.

“We want to have a vibrant tourism sector like what used to be in the yesteryears. We know the sector is the backbone of this region and any efforts by the government to revive it must continue,” she4 said.

She spoke in Kilifi town, where she said that they aim at marketing Kenya in countries like China, India, Japan, and entire Europe.

“We are also exposing other tourism ventures like convention and business travel. In regard, we shall set aside funds to market Kenya as a convention market,” she added.

The PS said that they are also targeting new sectors like sports tourism which will attract more tourists like the world rally championship and world marathons among other sports which put Kenya in the world limelight.

She said they had established the hotel signature where they engage in tourism, why they choose to come to Kenya, and which areas they enjoy like going snorkeling on the south coast, like Watamu in Dolphins and whale migration in Lamu County.

She promised to also tour the multi-million Ronald Ngala Utalii College, which is at 74 percent complete in the first phase in the next four months.

The institution she said is expected to start enrolling students to train in Hotel industries and also shipping once it is completed.
