Newcastle Look To Loan Out Banished Tonali

Newcastle United is prepared to consider an initial loan to cover for the suspended Sandro Tonali, according to 90min, because of persistent concerns about Financial Fair Play.

Newcastle spent around £150 million on new players during the summer. But their penultimate addition was Chelsea’s Lewis Hall, who signed on loan before making the move permanent in 2024.

Newcastle is now forecasting an FFP deficit of roughly £40 million for 2024, which, although not preventing them from spending in January, may have an impact on business.

The Italian midfielder will not be eligible until August after serving a ten-month ban for his role in an illicit betting scandal in his own country.

Newcastle is reportedly looking for a center defender, another forward, and a ‘number 10’ among other positions. However, a new deep-lying midfielder has risen to the top of their transfer want list.

Sources have revealed to 90min that they are already considering Tonali replacements.

Aside from Phillips, Newcastle has a number of other possibilities left over from the summer. This included Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.

Even if he was, a potential fee of almost £40 million is not something Newcastle would consider.
