Newcastle United have suffered a setback ahead of their Premier League campaign with manager Eddie Howe confirming that striker Yoane Wissa and right-back Tino Livramento will both be sidelined for up to eight weeks.
Wissa, who joined from Brentford during the summer transfer window, is yet to make his debut for the Magpies after sustaining a knee injury in training.
He is not expected to return until early November, delaying his integration into Howe’s attacking plans.
Livramento, meanwhile, picked up a knee ligament injury during last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.
The 21-year-old full-back, who has been a consistent presence on the right flank, will also miss a crucial stretch of fixtures, including league clashes and European commitments.
Despite the injury concerns, Howe received a boost with the news that midfielder Jacob Ramsey is closing in on a return.
The 23-year-old, out since August with a thigh problem, is back in training and could be named on the bench when Newcastle host Nottingham Forest at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
The absences of Wissa and Livramento are expected to test Newcastle’s squad depth as the club looks to maintain momentum in the Premier League and balance its European commitments this autumn
