Nation Media Group (NMG) Managing Editor Bernard Mwinzi has announced his exit from the media house.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 11, Mwinzi said he has cordially agreed with the management of NMG to leave the media house.
Mwinzi noted that his last day of working for NMG will be on Friday, June 14, 2024, after which he will start the formal process of exiting the media house.
“As I prepare to step into the next chapter of my professional journey, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each one of you. Working alongside such a talented and dedicated team has been an incredible experience, and I am immensely thankful for the support and belief you, and the management of NMG, have shown me throughout my time here,” read the statement in part.
Mwinzi mentioned that he had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the passion, creativity, and relentless pursuit of excellence of the NMG staff.
He expressed confidence that the team he leaves behind would achieve remarkable milestones and set new standards in the media world.
“Thank you for the camaraderie, the collaboration, and the countless moments of learning and growth. It has been an honour to be a part of this team, and I will carry the memories and lessons from this experience with me always,” Mwinzi added.
Mwinzi joined NMG in 2007 as a sub-editor and rose through the ranks to become the managing editor.
His exit comes days after NMG Chief Executive Officer Stephen Gitagama announced that the media house will lay off part of its staff starting June 14 due to financial challenges.
“We must evolve into a leaner, and more agile company that will innovate at pace and drive the efficient delivery of services to our customers. This will, unfortunately, necessitate a workforce reduction, effective Friday, June 14, 2024,” the NMG CEO stated.
Gitagama noted that the layoff exercise would be carried out with utmost respect and in adherence to the labour laws.
