The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) is planning a two-phase trial run before the Green Park bus terminus opens later this month.
The NMS will conduct the test run on Wednesday, June 22nd, beginning at 5 a.m.
According to the service, the test run will evaluate the feasibility of gradually removing matatus from CBD to the new terminus.
During a stakeholders meeting, Eng. Michael Ochieng’, Director of Transport and Public Works, stated that the first test run will involve PSVs terminating at Railways Station, while the second will involve Matatus plying Ngong and Lang’ata roads.
To avoid the confusion and traffic jams seen during previous trial runs, NMS will deploy reinforcement officers who will be stationed at strategic points throughout the CBD to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Upon completion, all PSVs that operated from the Nairobi Railway Station stage will drop passengers at the terminus.
Matatus from Ngong, Kibera, Rongai, and Dagoretti are included.
All PSVs from Mombasa Road (South B, South C, Industrial Area, Imara Daima, Athi River, Kitengela, Machakos) will terminate at a new terminus at the Bunyala and Workshop road junction.
