The nominee for Inspector General of Police (IG), Eng. Japheth Koome Nchebere, is scheduled to appear before a vetting committee on Tuesday, November 8, for consideration of his suitability for appointment to office.
Eng. Koome will testify at Parliament buildings before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Affairs.
Eng. Koome will be required to present original copies of his identity card, academic and professional certificates, and other relevant testimonials, according to Serah Kioko, the clerk of the National Assembly.
He will also be required to provide compliance and clearance certificates to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Higher Education Loans Board, and any credit reference bureaus.
The vetting will take place in accordance with the provisions of the National Police Service Act, the Public Appointments Act, and the Standing Orders of the Houses of Parliament.
President William Ruto nominated Koome to the position on September 27 after outgoing Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, who was battling ill health, chose to go on terminal leave before the end of his term.
Mr. Koome is the current Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo, and a former Nairobi County Police Commander.
