The National Police Service (NPS), through its elite Special Operations Group (SOG), dismantled a terror cell in Garissa County on Monday, June 2, 2025.
The raid, driven by actionable intelligence, targeted known Al-Shabaab hideouts in the Najo and Guracho areas.
Upon storming the locations, SOG officers encountered heavy resistance, sparking a fierce gunfight. By the end of the confrontation, four terrorists had been fatally neutralized.
Security teams recovered a significant cache of weaponry, including four AK-47 rifles, a PKM machine gun, assorted rounds of ammunition, communication radios, and other tactical equipment.
Authorities believe the hideout was part of an active planning cell responsible for orchestrating attacks along the Kenya-Somalia border.
This operation is being hailed as another major victory in Kenya’s ongoing counterterrorism efforts, which have intensified following a spike in cross-border threats in 2025.
Security analysts say the swift and strategic nature of the raid reflects improved coordination between national intelligence services and ground forces.
“The NPS remains committed to dismantling terror networks and securing all corners of the country,” a police spokesperson stated. “We commend our officers for their bravery and urge the public to continue sharing information to help neutralize emerging threats.”
