The Nurses Union unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms has condemned the heinous attack perpetrated against their esteemed General Secretary Hon. Seth Kuka Panyako and who is vying for Member of the National Assembly for Malava by-elections.
In a statement, the Union said that they are appalled that the act of violence was carried out by goons, whom we believe were dispatched by the current regime in a desperate and failed attempt to silence a voice championing the rights of their healthcare professionals and the common people.
“This targeted violence is not just an attack on an individual, it is a blatant assault on democracy itself and an attempt to intimidate those who dare to challenge the status quo.
“Our General Secretary represents the hopes of countless citizens for genuine change and effective representation,” the union said.
It warned that the use of retrospective politics and any deliberate plan by the current regime to subvert the fundamental will of the people will not, and cannot, go unpunished.
According to the union, it stands firm against any form of political intimidation and threats while safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the voices of the electorate are heard and respected.
“Our immediate thoughts are with those who were injured in this brutal attack. We wish the employees of Down Hill Hotel, the General Secretary’s personal security detail, and all other victims currently receiving treatment at Webuye County Hospital a swift and complete recovery,” it added.
“We will hold those responsible for this violence accountable through all legal and democratic means available.”
The union assured that the General Secretary is safe despite there being a heavy presence of goons being escorted by Police across all the polling stations to force ballot stuffing and voter suppression.
