Nyamira County Admits To ‘Erroneously’ Paying Ksh.25 Million To Employee Who Earns Ksh.19K

The Nyamira County government has admitted to erroneously paying an employee more than Ksh.25 million in March 2023.

The excess cash, totaling Ksh.25,018,852, was incorporated into a female worker’s special house allowance remuneration for the period, bringing her net pay to Ksh.15,432,833 after taxes.

The employee’s usual special house allowance is Ksh.2,700, and her salary is Ksh.19,052.

“It has been noted that you were erroneously paid a house allowance of twenty-five million eighteen thousand eight hundred and fifty-two shillings as indicated on your pay slip instead of two thousand seven hundred shillings for the month of March 2023,” Godfrey Kiriago, Nyamira County’s Human Resource Director, said in a memo to the woman notifying her of the overpayment.

According to Kiriago, Nyamira County has since recovered the overpayment.

“Please note that the excess salary paid to you erroneously has been deducted from your pay but your salary for March 2023 has been paid plus your accrued salary arrears and allowances totaling to nineteen thousand and fifty-two shillings,” said Kiriago.
