The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Rwanyambo Police Post in Nyandarua County has been interdicted following a disturbing incident in which a woman reportedly suffered a miscarriage while in police custody.
In a statement issued Thursday evening, National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed the immediate interdiction of the officer, pending investigations into the incident.
Nyaga stated that the matter is now under active investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU), working jointly with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), to uncover the circumstances that led to the loss of the pregnancy.
“The NPS reaffirms its steadfast commitment to serving and protecting the public, while strictly upholding the rule of law, human rights, and fundamental freedoms,” said Nyaga. “Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.”
The incident has sparked public concern over the treatment of detainees in police custody and reignited calls for accountability and humane conditions within detention facilities. Authorities have assured the public that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
