Kisumu County Government has dispatched boats to transport families whose homes have been flooded to evacuation centres.
Trucks have also been made available to assist with the operation.
Governor Anyang Nyong’o and acting Kisumu county commissioner Hussein Alanson co-chaired the county management disaster committee to assess the situation.
Trucks and boats, according to the two, will be used to rescue families from flood-damaged areas.
They have, however, issued new appeals to well-wishers to donate food and non-food items to the affected families.
More than 4500 people have been displaced as a result of the Nyando River burst its banks.
