Nyeri county internship takes 200 youth off the jobless corner

Nyeri county has officially unveiled its third cohort of interns under a special youth empowerment programme. – By Gerald Gekara.

Presiding over the event, Nyeri governor Kahiga has said the programme is aimed at making interns more marketable with employability skills, as well as providing an opportunity for the youth to practise their industrial skills.

“This programme has had success stories where interns have secured job opportunities for our youth. Even with the budget constrains, we believe that young people deserve such opportunities.’ Governor Kahiga said.

Nyeri County is among one of the few counties in the country undertaking this programme.

The cohort of about 200 interns who are degree, diploma and certificate holders reported about two months ago.

For the last three years the programme has been running, about 40 of the interns have so far been absorbed by the County Government of Nyeri.
