Nyeri Journalists Fume Over Gachagua ‘Attack’

Rigathi Gachagua, Kenya Kwanza’s running mate, upset Nyeri journalists on Monday with remarks he made that they claimed incited the citizenry against them.

After he finished speaking, journalists hastily departed the meeting’s location out of concern that attendees might turn against them.

The meeting, called by Gachagua and attended by hundreds of Kieni grassroots leaders, was intended to rally support for Kieni parliamentary candidate Njoroge Wainaina.

The politician stated during his remarks that journalists were misrepresenting the facts and that UDA would still win without their help.

“You have recorded enough you news people. And don’t alter facts the way you always do. Do you know these people alter facts?,” he said.

“We shall win this election even without your help,” he added.

Gachagua claimed the media has been manipulating his comments and writing what suits their agenda going on to say that, after winning, he will build a house at Kakuret in Kieni.

He instructed the media to go ahead and misrepresent what he said, saying the money he will use to build the house will be his own salary and he can do what he wants with it.

Gachagua even went so far as to specifically name a journalist and the name of the local radio station (Kameme FM), noting that its presenters in Nairobi are invariably biased.

“But we know the radio station is owned by Uhuru Kenyatta’s family. Or don’t you know that,” he posed.

“These people attack Rigathi Gachagua every morning. But they will take us nowhere; we shall beat them in the elections,” he added.
