The Anti-Corruption High Court has extended orders blocking the payment of Sh6.2 billion to companies linked to businessman Ben Gethi Wangui and others until March 3, 2026.Â
Justice Benjamin Musyoki issued the extension on Monday, February 2, 2026, after several defendants failed to attend court or file responses.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) alleges the payments are for “air supply”—fictitious contracts for items like food, fuel, and clothing that were never delivered to the National Youth Service (NYS).
The freeze affects 11 companies, including six specifically linked to Gethi—such as Highview Trading and Schoolwork Enterprises—which collectively claimed Sh3.4 billion.
Investigators found that 277 Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) and delivery notes were forged, with many documents either computer-generated or stolen from other government agencies.
While the EACC initially validated some of these pending bills during a multi-agency verification, it later reversed its position following deeper forensic audits that uncovered the widespread irregularities.Â
The court has granted Gethi and his co-defendants seven days to file their responses to the lawsuit before the next hearing.
