Nzioka Waita’s Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) has asked the Azimio La Umoja party’s council, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, to rein in on Wiper for reportedly bullying and disrespecting other parties.
CCU Secretary-General Phillipe Sadja accused the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party of looking down on parties in the alliance from the lower Eastern area during a press conference on Tuesday.
“I would like to tell all those people who are calling for some of our candidates to step down that CCU will field candidates for all available elective seats except the presidency which is reserved for Raila. All our candidates will be on the ballot and Kenyans will then decide the best persons to hold office,” said Sadja.
Sadja’s comments come after reports that Kalonzo is attempting to persuade CCU Machakos governor candidate Nzioka Waita to drop his quest in favor of Wiper’s Wavinya Ndeti.
“I’d like to urge Kalonzo to stay clear of regional politics in Machakos. Let the people of Machakos County decide the next governor of the region,” he added.
Waita and Ndeti’s feud has been heating up in recent weeks. On Sunday, supporters of the two candidates battled at an Azimio rally in Machakos, forcing coalition leader Raila Odinga to call the event off.
While Waita insisted that he would not withdraw his Machakos governorship quest, Sadja emphasized that all CCU candidates are constitutionally entitled to run for any electoral seat without fear of pressure or outside influence from competitors.
“CCU is a big party; it is just as big as any other political movement in the country. According to the coalition agreement, all 26 parties in the Azimio alliance are on par in terms of influence. No party is bigger than any other,” said Sadja.
