Nzioka Waita Resigns As CCU Party Leader

Former Machakos gubernatorial candidate Nzioka Waita has resigned as Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party leader.

Waita tendered his resignation in a letter dated February 28, 2023, addressed to the party’s chief executive officer, Sylvester Mutune.

He copied the same to both Registrar of political parties Ann Nderitu and CCU deputy party leader Florence Mwangangi.

Mwangangi was his running mate in the August polls.

“Kindly be informed that I have resigned from the position of the party leader and all other attendant party committee membership of CCU with immediate effect,” the letter read in part.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to the party NEC for the privilege of supporting my gubernatorial candidature in the general elections of 2022.”

The former State  House chief of staff took over as CCU party leader on February 28, 2022.

He put up a spirited campaign against Wavinya Ndeti, the Wiper party’s nominee, who later trounced him at the ballot.

He polled second with 129,181 votes while Wavinya seized the seat with 226,609 votes.

Nzioka’s leadership was published in the Kenya Gazette Notice No 1992 under the Political Parties Act NO 11 of 2011 on the same day.
