Nairobi, Kenya — The Sh505 million corruption case involving former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his four children, and several co-accused has been adjourned for one month to allow the finalization of ongoing plea bargain negotiations.
The Anti-Corruption Court granted the adjournment on Tuesday, following a joint application by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The two agencies informed the court that they are engaged in advanced discussions with the accused, aimed at resolving the matter through an out-of-court settlement.
The court agreed that the reasons provided were exceptional and justified the delay but warned that should the plea bargain talks collapse, the case would proceed to full trial without further adjournments.
The case will be mentioned on July 21, 2025, when the parties are expected to update the court on the status of the negotiations or confirm their readiness to proceed to trial.
Obado and his co-accused face charges relating to the alleged embezzlement of over Sh505 million from Migori County coffers during his tenure as governor, a case that has attracted significant public attention and political debate.
