Occupy Kisumu: Youths take to the street in anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests

Generation Z and millennials in Kisumu County have taken to the streets to protest against the Finance Bill 2024 as part of the #OccupyParliament movement.

Speaking to the media, a section of the youths reiterated that they are uninterested in an amendment of the bill, and rather want it rejected in totality.

The Finance Bill 2024 proposes a raft of taxation and revenue generation measures that have been termed punitive and oppressive to the already overburdened Kenyans.

Youths at the forefront of the #OccupyKisumu movement are protesting amendments and adoption of the bill, which they want thrown out by members of Parliament. They reiterated their impartial stance on the bill.

“We want to categorically state, we are not supported by any politician. We are not affiliated with any politician. This is Gen Z and Millennials for Kenya. Kisumu for Kenya,” a lady who spoke to the media stated.

They called upon all Gen Zs and all millennials in Kenya to review all the systems and issues that got the country into the current situation.

“There’s a lack of accountability in leadership. It is supposed to be servant leadership. They are our representatives. There is nothing honourable about them”.

According to the anti-Finance Bill 2024 #OccupyParliament demos, similar protests are expected in Nairobi, Laikipia, Eldoret, and Nakuru.
