ODM and Kenya Kwanza MPs Adopt Historic Bipartisan Resolutions to Strengthen National Unity

By Michelle Ndaga

In a landmark move aimed at fostering national cohesion, the Joint Parliamentary Group of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) today adopted a series of resolutions to guide parliamentary cooperation and advance Kenya’s development agenda. The meeting took place at the KCB Leadership Institute in Nairobi.

The resolutions, announced in a joint statement posted on social media by ODM, emphasized the need to prioritize the country’s interests above partisan politics. The MPs committed to fostering reconciliation, dialogue, and inclusivity across all political divides, extending a call for cooperation beyond the two parties to all interested political actors.

A central focus of the resolutions is the full implementation of the 10-point Agenda, a blueprint for economic growth, social justice, job creation, healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, governance, and youth and women empowerment. Lawmakers pledged to support legislation, oversight, and resource allocation to achieve these national priorities while intensifying efforts to fight corruption across all arms of government.

The MPs also committed to compensating victims of violence as recommended by the Presidential Coordinating Committee, reinforcing accountability and national healing.

Further, the Joint Parliamentary Group underscored its resolve to engage in constructive national dialogue and inclusive policy-making, drawing inspiration from President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. “Putting Kenya first, we will give all necessary support to keep the country united on a progressive path,” the statement read.

A retreat for the joint group will be organized later this year to strengthen working harmony and streamline parliamentary operations in line with the Memorandum of Understanding.

The meeting was attended by senior parliamentary leaders including Senate Majority Leader Hon. Aaron Cheruiyot, National Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Minority Leader Hon. Stewart Madzayo, and National Assembly Minority Leader Hon. Junet Mohamed, among others.

The statement concluded by urging leaders to prioritize sound and objective governance over populism, signaling a new chapter in bipartisan parliamentary engagement for Kenya’s national interest.
