Senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have strongly endorsed the proposed National Conclave initiated by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, aimed at fostering intergenerational dialogue and addressing key issues facing Kenya. The leaders also criticized opposition figures, particularly former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, for rejecting the initiative.

Speaking during the official opening of the Ratanga Modern Market in Homa Bay County, ODM national chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga accused Gachagua and his allies of promoting divisive tribal politics. She alleged that Gachagua had extended this rhetoric beyond Kenyan borders, even during his recent visit to the United States, where he reportedly only met with members of his own ethnic group.

“Gachagua has moved his tribal politics abroad,” Wanga remarked. “He is not interested in unity or inclusive development. We will not allow such backward politics to derail efforts for a united and prosperous nation.”

Wanga emphasized that ODM remains firmly part of the broad-based government collaboration with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, reaffirming the party’s commitment to supporting government programs for the benefit of all Kenyans.

“We [ODM] have agreed to work with President William Ruto. We have no apologies. We will support him and support the programs of the government,” she said.

Other leaders who backed the National Conclave initiative included Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino, Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Mohamud, Siaya Woman Representative Christine Ombaka, and Nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla. They echoed Wanga’s sentiments, describing the dialogue as vital for Kenya’s economic and political stability.

Fatuma Mohamud specifically appealed to the youth to halt ongoing demonstrations and instead support the peaceful national dialogue being championed by Raila Odinga.

“This is not the time for protests. It’s time for constructive engagement and dialogue. Let us give the process a chance,” she urged.

Idah Odinga, wife of the ODM leader, also called on residents and leaders from Luo Nyanza to embrace the government’s inclusive agenda. She said the renewed collaboration between Raila and Ruto presents a historic opportunity for the region to benefit from national development initiatives.

“It is our time to reap the benefits of this partnership. Let us not isolate ourselves but join hands with other Kenyans in moving the country forward,” said Idah.

The National Conclave proposed by Raila Odinga seeks to bring together leaders across generations, political affiliations, and communities to chart a common path on governance, economic revitalization, and national cohesion.

As political realignments take shape and alliances evolve, ODM’s endorsement of the conclave marks a significant step in fostering national unity and dialogue amidst rising political tensions and public discontent.
