Achieng’ received 3,569 votes, defeating Polycarp Wanga of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, who received 3,453 votes.
However, some polling places experienced pandemonium throughout the election, which candidates’ supporters blamed on voter intimidation and corruption.
As a result of the chaos that erupted in the voting places in Aluor and Kambare, at least eight persons were hurt and three vehicles were damaged.
The election process was momentarily halted, according to the police.
