The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is mourning the death of Peter “Rainbow” Odhiambo, the party’s Mombasa County Organising Secretary, whose passing has left a deep void in the party’s coastal leadership.

Odhiambo, widely respected as one of ODM’s most dedicated grassroots mobilisers, was celebrated for his loyalty, energy, and unwavering commitment to the party’s mission.

His sudden death has sent shockwaves through Mombasa’s political circles and the wider ODM fraternity, with leaders and supporters paying tribute to his years of service.

Mombasa Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir led the tributes, describing the late Odhiambo as a passionate and dependable organiser who played a key role in strengthening the party’s presence at the Coast.

In a condolence message issued on Thursday, October 9, Governor Nassir expressed his sorrow on behalf of ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, who was away on personal engagements.

“On behalf of our Party Leader, H. E. Raila Amolo Odinga, I convey our deepest condolences to the ODM family and the people of Mombasa following the passing of our County Organizing Secretary, Peter ‘Rainbow’ Odhiambo. We join his family, friends, and the entire ODM fraternity in mourning this great comrade. May his memory continue to inspire us to strengthen the movement he so faithfully served,” Nassir said.

Governor Nassir praised Odhiambo for his “energy, loyalty, and unwavering belief in the cause of the people,” noting that his legacy would continue to inspire ODM members and leaders across the country.

Party members and residents described Odhiambo as a selfless leader whose dedication to community mobilization and party unity left an indelible mark on Mombasa politics.

His death is being mourned not only by ODM supporters in Mombasa but also across the national political landscape, where he was regarded as a symbol of steadfast service to the movement.
