ODM Organizes 3-Day Bash, Football Tournament to Mark 20th Anniversary

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is preparing to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a three-day series of events in Mombasa from October 10 to 12, 2025, marking two decades since the party’s formation.

In a statement signed by Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, ODM described the milestone as a commemoration of “resilience, sacrifice, and unyielding commitment to democracy, justice, and the people of Kenya.”

The celebrations, the party said, will not only highlight past struggles and victories but also outline ODM’s vision for a united and prosperous Kenya.

The programme features a Youth Summit to bring together young leaders, a Women’s Convention celebrating the role of women in Kenya’s democratic journey, and a youth concert showcasing music and creativity.

A four-team football tournament involving Gor Mahia FC, AFC Leopards SC, Bandari FC and Shabana FC will also be staged as a symbol of national unity through sport.

Beyond Mombasa, ODM has planned build-up activities across the country, with major events in Migori and Wajir counties to underscore inclusivity and grassroots engagement.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm ODM’s enduring pledge to the people of Kenya: to continue being the beacon of hope, the custodian of democracy, and the unrelenting defender of justice,” Sifuna said.

Formed in 2005 during the constitutional referendum, ODM has been one of Kenya’s most influential political movements, playing a key role in shaping national politics and remaining a formidable opposition force.

The anniversary celebrations come as ODM positions itself for the next electoral cycle, with observers noting that the event will likely double as a platform to rally its base ahead of 2027.
