ODM National Elections Board Chairperson Catherine Muma was sentenced to a Ksh 200,000 fine or six months in prison for contempt of court by the Kisumu High Court.Â
Ms. Muma was fined for disobeying a court order that required the ODM party and her to hold a new party nomination using universal suffrage in the South Kasipul Ward on May 27, 2022.
After Geoffrey Opiyo, the incumbent MCA, filed complaints against Zakayo Ongondo Okuma, the Party candidate, the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) ordered the ODM Party to hold a new Party nomination in the same Ward.
In defiance of the PPDT Order to conduct fresh nomination, the ODM national Elections Board instead issued a nomination certificate to Ongondo.
Judge Lady Justice J. Kamau of the Kisumu High Court issues an order transferring the case to the Homa-Bay High Court for immediate compliance.
Zakayo Ongondo Okuma, an ODM MCA candidate, had earlier gone to appellate Court to defend his nomination.
