Elders from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Bondo backyard challenged him to take charge of the party and order fresh nominations in the constituency.
The Sakwa clan elders called for the nullification of Bondo constituency nominations, which saw Gideon Ochanda emerge victorious.
However, a gubernatorial aspirant whose hopes of flying the party flag during the August general elections were dashed after the party canceled nominations at the last minute.
Despite reports that the ODM had given the ticket to Siaya Senator James Orengo, George Mugoye Mbeya insisted on campaigning.
Mugoye told the media in Siaya that the party had yet to communicate with him as an aspirant who had paid the nomination fees, and that he couldn’t afford to let his guard down.
He stated that he will stop campaigning once he receives communication from the party’s national elections board, adding that the information he has is that the party has suspended the gubernatorial elections.
Gideon Ochanda, a Bondo MP, won the ticket with 10,771 votes, beating out John Andiwo Mwai, who received 4,967 votes, and Thomas Andiwo Obondo, who received 622 votes.
