Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) national chairperson Gladys Wanga has reiterated that the party is keen on strengthening its grassroots presence even as it engages in negotiations ahead of the 2027 polls.
According to Homa Bay governor, Gladys Wanga the party has decided that it will engage on a 50-50 basis agreement in the quest to form the next government.
“Regarding those positions, we will speak, saying it is 50-50. If they take half, ODM also takes half. If they take the Presidency, the Deputy is ODM. That is how we will talk as we move forward,” said the ODM chairperson.
She said the talks will not only focus on power sharing but also on key issues affecting Kenyans.
“When we go into negotiations, we will go knowing that we are a big party. And as we have said, we will talk about positions, yes, but first, we will also talk about the issues of the citizens,” she told Homa Bay residents.
The governor argued that the party leadership was given a go ahead by delegates to start the negotiations during the recent special delegates’ conference.
“People who divide Kenyans, those who divide Kenyans on tribal grounds, people of insults, people who do not understand themselves—those are people we cannot talk to,” Wanga said concerning the United Opposition front.
Speaking in Muhoroni Sub-County, Wanga also dismissed talks that the party is split in the middle since a few individuals have rebelled.
She assured that ODM still has a majority of the elected leaders loyal to the party and the current leadership, and will remain the same post 2027 elections.
