ODM: Wanjigi Not Our Candidate Yet

The Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Director of Elections, Junet Mohamed, has now confirmed that Jimi Wanjigi’s presidential bid for 2022 is not formally known within the party.

According to Mohamed, who talked to Citizen TV on Wednesday, just two individuals have showed interest in standing for the country’s top seat next year on an ODM platform. Hassan Joho, the governor of Mombasa, and Wycliffe Oparanya, the governor of Kakamega, are the two.

“I’m not aware that Jimi Wanjigi is standing for our party’s presidency.” I just got a message from you. Ali Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya are two persons I know who have expressed interest and paid the nomination expenses,” Mohamed stated.

By February, Mohamed claims, the party would have worked out issues and decided who will be its presidential candidate.

Wanjigi was locked out of the nominations because he did not submit his application to the party before the procedure closed, according to Sifuna.

“I don’t think Jimi Wanjigi can be described as Raila’s rival. He has submitted a letter to the party asking for the process to be reopened so that we can make a decision,” he continued.

Their words come barely a day after Wanjigi stated that he had received his father’s blessings and is now ready to run for president.

Wanjigi is seen with his father, former minister Maina Wanjigi, in images published on Tuesday during a traditional ritual performed at his parent’s home.
