The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has received a significant boost to its reputation for financial integrity after being awarded a Certificate of Recognition at the 2025 FiRe Awards.
The recognition, granted by the Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards promoters, lauded the institution for attaining an unqualified audit opinion under the Commissions and Independent Offices category reporting through the IPSAS Cash Basis framework.
The recognition underscores Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and robust public financial management.

An unqualified audit opinion, commonly known as a clean audit, represents the highest level of assurance auditors can issue, confirming that financial statements are free from material misstatements and fully compliant with established standards.
The DPP welcomed the honour, describing it as a validation of ongoing reforms within the office. He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining strict financial discipline and ensuring the ODPP continues to meet the highest standards of prudence and accountability.
The recognition places the ODPP among a select cadre of public institutions demonstrating exemplary compliance with international accounting practices. Widely regarded as a benchmark for excellence in financial reporting in Kenya, the FiRe Awards promote best practices in transparency, governance, and disclosure across both public and private sectors.

The awards programme is jointly organized by leading regulatory and professional bodies, including the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, the Capital Markets Authority, and the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
Their collaboration seeks to enhance the credibility, accuracy, and reliability of financial reporting, ultimately strengthening investor confidence and public trust.
Recognitions of this nature play a vital role in reinforcing confidence in independent institutions tasked with upholding the rule of law. For the ODPP, a key pillar in Kenya’s criminal justice system, the award not only affirms sound financial stewardship but also enhances institutional credibility.
Amid growing scrutiny of public sector accountability, the ODPP’s achievement sets a strong example for other commissions and independent offices to prioritize rigorous financial management and adherence to globally accepted reporting standards.
