The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Children Division, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU) facilitated training on Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA) in Kilifi County.
Ms. Nancy Kerubo and Ms. Valentine Manyasi led the sensitization, supported by @terredeshommes Netherlands, in Malindi and Kilifi towns with a view to empowering the justice actors to understand and take preventive measures in understanding online child sexual exploitation and abuse cases.
Participants drawn from from various sectors were taken through different topics, namely introduction to OCSEA and emerging trends, adopting a child centered and trauma-informed approach in OCSEA cases and understanding perpetrators of OCSEA.
Other topics included gathering and using evidence in OCSEA cases, prosecution of OCSEA cases, the role of police in OCSEA cases, the legal framework in OCSEA cases, legal representation in OCSEA cases, as well as the development of investigation and prosecution checklists and action plans by the participants.
