Rally legends Sébastien Ogier and Ott Tänak kicked off the 2025 Acropolis Rally in style on Thursday evening, sharing the stage win after clocking identical times in the opening super special stage held in central Athens.

The 1.5-kilometre crowd-pleasing stage through the heart of the Greek capital saw both the eight-time world champion Ogier and 2019 titleholder Tänak cross the finish line in 1 minute 18.1 seconds, setting the joint-fastest time to share the early lead.

Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta delivered a strong performance to secure third place, finishing just 0.9 seconds behind the leading duo.

Meanwhile, championship leader Elfyn Evans and two-time world champion Kalle Rovanperä, both also driving for Toyota, posted identical times to sit jointly in sixth position, 1.5 seconds adrift of the front-runners.

The Acropolis Rally, known for its rocky terrain and punishing conditions, continues over the weekend with a series of gravel stages across central Greece. The results from Thursday’s opener set the tone for what promises to be a tightly contested round in the World Rally Championship calendar.
