Ogolla Death: Ruto Allies Ask DCI To Investigate Kalonzo Remarks

Kenya Kwanza allied MPs challenged Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over his persistent claims that the late Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla was assassinated.

Emurua Dikir MP Johannes Ng’eno accused Kalonzo of spreading unfounded allegations. He declared that the era of propaganda had ended and urged the DCI to treat the matter with gravity.

“Days of propaganda are over, I want to ask the DCI to take this matter seriously. These days, we are dealing with evidence.”

Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago went further, questioning Kalonzo’s integrity and invoking his controversial role in the disputed 2007 election outcome.

“Instead of speaking about who took out who… if you are honest, you should never have served as vice president alongside Mwai Kibaki. You knew you lost the election, yet you went ahead and were sworn in at night.”

Kalonzo remains unshaken. Speaking at the funeral of Beryl Odinga, he reiterated his belief that Ogolla’s death was not accidental.

The former vice president dismissed the Kenya Defence Forces postmortem findings and renewed calls for an independent inquiry into the April 2024 helicopter crash that killed Ogolla and nine other officers.

The Ministry of Defence report concluded that a catastrophic engine malfunction brought down the helicopter. It cited engine surge, a loud bang, loss of power and a sudden drop in RPM before impact.

But Kalonzo insists the official version does not add up.

In April 2025, Kalonzo controversially argued that the Chief of Defence Forces and the President rank among the most heavily protected officials in the country, making negligence or sabotage a matter of national concern.

He also alluded to political motive, recalling previous attempts to remove Ogolla from the National Security Council. Kalonzo framed the tragedy within what he called a struggle for social justice and, within Raila Odinga’s mantra to fight for social justice, declared his willingness to record a statement with investigators.
