Old MPs to miss Sitting Allowance after new rules to ensure social distance

All Members of Parliament and other support staff aged 58 and above will now have to carry out their duties from home.

This is inline with the President Uhuru Kenyatta’s new directive urging government agencies to egulate the number of workers at a given time.

The new measures published by National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi will make sure the parliament hosts nearly a third of its normal capacity.

“In accordance to the Ministry of Health’s advisory, Members of Parliament and Parliamentary staff aged 58 years and above, and those with Pre-existing conditions as well as those who are expectant and lactating, making them more vulnerable to COVID-19, are encouraged to work from home for their safety.” the statement read in part.

This will see the likes of the advanced James Orengo, Beth Mugo, and Jimmy Angwenyi steer clear of the house premises.
