Underwriter Old Mutual has introduced a new medical plan that includes critical illnesses as an insurance benefit.
The Afya Imara Family Cover plan is designed to provide cash benefits upon the first diagnosis of critical illnesses such as cancer.
This product enhancement is the result of a partnership between the Old Mutual General Insurance business, which provides the Afya Imara family cover, and the Old Mutual Life Assurance Kenya business, which will underwrite the critical illness insurance benefit. The move is intended to improve Kenyans’ health insurance experience.
Ken Omami, Head of Customer Experience and Retention at Old Mutual General Insurance and Health Business, says the new cover improves customers’ health insurance experiences.
“We believe that this new benefit further sets apart the Afya Imara customer value proposition ahead of other medical insurance plans in the market. This truly demonstrates our commitment to our purpose to transform lives and to enable the financial goals of our customers by keeping our promises,” he said.
If the policyholder or any of their covered family members is diagnosed with any of these illnesses, Old Mutual Insurance will pay a cash lump sum of Kshs.750,000 for all levels of inpatient cover. This benefit will help to bridge the gap between inpatient sublimits for newly diagnosed chronic illnesses and treatment costs.
In May 2022, Old Mutual Group changed its name from UAP Old Mutual Group to Old Mutual Group. The company’s goal is to drive innovation in financial service solutions, allowing African households to achieve financial stability.
