Former Labour CAS Patrick ole Ntutu has been declared the winner of the Narok Governor race.
Ntutu, who was running for the UDA ticket, garnered 158,100 votes, while ODM’s Moitalel Kenta received 148,270 votes.
The county governor results were announced at the National Tallying Centre in Kenya’s Bomas after the Narok County Returning Officer Dr. Sidney Namulungu changed the venue of the results announcement citing a breach of the peace at the county tallying center at Maasai Mara University.
The announcement of the results was postponed on Saturday after the two teams clashed over who won the gubernatorial seat.
At one point, Kenta supporters shut down the Narok-Mahiu Highway in protest of alleged voting rigging and malpractices.
On the other hand, Ntutu supporters blocked the Narok-Bomet road for an hour, urging the electoral commission to declare Ntutu the winner of the governorship election.
Kenta opposed the results, claiming that there were numerous instances of malpractice during the exercise.
Ntutu, for his part, requested that the IEBC declare him the winner of the race after emerging as the top candidate in the contest.
Kenta and his supporters opposed the Kilgoris constituency results for governor, which sparked a schism between the two parties.
They claimed that officials from the electoral commission were compromised in order to manipulate the election results.
Following the events at Kilgoris Boys Secondary School, where the Kenta team stormed the tallying center, the electoral body officers transferred the tallying to the county tallying center.
